Description:

Join us for a half or full day to explore classroom lessons to meet the K-5 Computer Science Standards.  Educators who participate in one or both sessions receive a $200 stipend and access to resources.

Indiana teachers who participate in free CodeHS workshop will receive:

  • CodeHS Pro License for the 2024-25 school year through June 30, 2025 (only for first-time CodeHS customers)
  • 1-year CodeHS PD Membership ($400 value) for each teacher, which includes access to online mini PD courses, exclusive live PD workshops, and hundreds of on-demand workshops
  • $200 teacher stipend for attendance (Limit to ONE stipend per teacher during the 24-25 school year)

K-2 Coding with CodeHS

Explore the CodeHS K-2 elementary curriculum in our workshop, tailored for seamless integration into K-12 computer science education. This CSTA-aligned program uses ScratchJr to teach programming basics, offering flexible lessons, hands-on modules, and accessible resources to enhance teaching and student engagement in lower elementary classrooms.

 

Grades 3-5 Coding with CodeHS

12:30 – 3:30pm EST

Explore the CodeHS 3-5 elementary curriculum in our workshop, tailored for seamless integration into K-12 computer science education. This CSTA-aligned program uses Scratch to teach programming basics, offering flexible lessons, hands-on modules, and accessible resources to enhance teaching and student engagement in lower elementary classrooms.

 

Robin Leslie, CodeHS Professional Development Specialist

Robin is a highly experienced educator with a passion for computer science and helping others succeed. With 15 years of experience as a high school business and computer science teacher in Northwest Indiana, our specialist has gained a deep understanding of how to teach a variety of computer programming languages such as Python, Javascript, Java, HTML, CSS, and more. Robin uses her extensive teaching experience to help other teachers feel comfortable and prepared to incorporate computer science into their curriculum. Whether it’s through providing guidance on lesson plans or sharing best practices for engaging students, our specialist is dedicated to helping teachers succeed and ensuring that all students have the opportunity to learn and grow in the field of computer science.

Agenda:

Grades K-2: 8:30am – 11:30am 

Grades 3-5: 12:30am – 3:30pm 

Lunch provided for anyone who is staying for BOTH sessions

Target Audience:

K-5 educators wanting to teach computer science or integrate computer science into their core subjects

Event Cancellation Policy

NIESC Cancellation Policy

Registrants who notify NIESC of their cancellation on or before the registration deadline date will not be required to pay the registration fee.

  • Registrants who cancel after the registration deadline but one week before the workshop date or call to cancel on the day of the workshop, will pay 50% of the registration fee.
  • Registrants who neglect to call or notify NIESC of their cancellation will be responsible for paying the full registration fee.
  • On official school corporation weather-related cancellation days, registrants will not be required to pay registration fees
