Description:

Are you in need of Language Comprehension hours for the Literacy Endorsement? Do you already have OG training and you don’t know what to go for next? Join us for these two days! The Keys to Beginning Reading professional development course provides background knowledge needed to teach all the components of foundational reading instruction and is aligned with the science of reading research.

The instructional practices are designed to easily transfer to classroom lessons and can be integrated with any reading curriculum or reading program. This facilitated course will align with knowledge needed to proceed with Praxis 5205. K-6 teachers, Special Education, Instructional Coaches and Administrators are invited to participate! This series consists of two full-day sessions.

Melissa Gill brings a wealth of experience to her role as WVEC’s Instructional Outreach Director, having navigated the diverse landscape of education as a primary and intermediate classroom teacher, instructional coach, reading specialist, and administrator. After facilitating preK-12 district professional development and providing leadership support for MTSS (Multi-Tiered Systems of Support), Melissa is deeply committed to enhancing educator effectiveness and student outcomes.

Currently, Melissa channels her expertise into supporting and inspiring educators while fostering valuable partnerships with educational organizations to address the needs of all students. Her passion for literacy is evident in her role as a Literacy Course Instructor at Indiana University Kokomo and as a trainer with Keys to Literacy. Additionally, she serves as the Executive Board Secretary for the Indiana State Literacy Association, contributing to the advancement of literacy initiatives across the state.

Outside of her professional endeavors, Melissa enjoys making new connections, traveling, and indulging in her love of reading. She cherishes quality time spent with her family, finding joy and inspiration in both her personal and professional life.
