Executive Director Notes

Does anyone in your corporation need to be certified or recertified on CPI?

What is CPI? Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) equips corporations and individuals with training and resources on prevention and de-escalating difficult behaviors and situations. The training provides individuals with skills to safely recognize and respond to crisis situations that occur everyday in our schools. Certification and recertification requires an on-line course as well as a one day in-person training.

If your corporation or school is interested in me providing CPI training or you have questions about CPI, please contact me at dharman@niesc.k12.in.us.

Member Spotlight

Alison Schlotfeldt
Curriculum Integration Coordinator

Alison Schlotfeldt is the Curriculum Integration Coordinator at School City of Mishawaka. She has been with the corporation for 1.5 years.

In the last year, Alison and her team have been working on the implementation of Amira, an AI-Powered reading tutor. In the past, they utilized Amira solely for intervention, but this year they have expanded that reach to all K-3 students. Some of their buildings are even implementing Amira through 6th grade. They have seen great engagement and growth amongst their students.

We asked Alison what some of her future goals or dreams for the corporation are. She shared, “For our teachers to continue to feel appreciated because they are rockstars! They try new things, they take changes in graceful strides, and they show up every day and do what is best for our students.”

Alison finds watching others feel empowered and successful to be a rewarding part of her position. This may be instructional coaches leading a professional learning, or a teacher trying a new EduProtocol in their classroom and seeing engagement skyrocket, or students coming together to improve their class scores on a Kahoot or Quizizz. Seeing others feel empowered, confident, and successful are her new "lightbulb moments."

In her spare time, Alison is an avid hockey fan. She enjoys reading and reality TV. She also spends time filing her cup through participating in educational organizations such as being the President of Indiana Connected Educators, a committee member with the IN CTO, and by being an active participant with other local and state professional learning networks.
