Join us for an extended Lunch & Learn to hear the story of eSports from cover to cover as we explore topics that will expand your understanding on student academic and personal growth, the start of a successful club or team, outfitting your team with hardware/software and the college & career opportunities.

Agenda:

10:30 - 11:00: Joe Wihlelm, eSports Coach for Fort Wayne Community Schools presents information on what eSports is, why it is important in schools, and how you can get started with a program.

11:00 - 11:30: Tim McRoberts, serving his 7th year as Associate Executive Director for IASP (Indiana Association of School Principals) will reveal the eSports Program being launched Fall 2022 and the details of the platform.  

11:30 - 12:15: In this session Bytespeed’s Esports and VR Solutions Director, Josh Knutson, will outline and examine the best practices for building a space for your eSports program. 

12:15 - 12:45: Lunch & Discussion

12:45 - 1:30: Wrap up the story with Patrick Ridout,  Trine University eSports Assistant Director & Professor who will take the time to discuss their eSports program and the impacts it has on student participants with college scholarships, career paths and employment opportunities within the rising world-wide industry.

If you do not qualify for the Digital Learning Mini-Grant, you are still welcome to be part of the cohort and use other funding you may have available to you from your district or other grants.  We would love to have you!!

Registration will soon be opening for the 2022 Annual HECC Conference taking place downtown Indianapolis, Crowne Plaza, on November 9-11th.

FROM THE INDIANA OFFICE of TECHNOLOGY
This fall, the IOT is wrapping up their Cybersecurity Conversations with local, county and state government agencies where they discussed HEA 1169 reporting requirements, IN.gov program, cybersecurity training opportunities, and cyber-threat and attack prevention methods.  There were many opportunities and services available and they listened to needs of stakeholders in the room.  Highlights from the Marshall / Fulton County Meeting:

Indiana Department of Homeland Security discussed their Grants Management, including the State and Local Cybersecurity Grant Program & State Homeland Security Program.  See the provided .pdf

MS-ISAC (Multi-State Information Sharing & Analysis Center) is a key resource for cyber threat prevention, protection, response and recovery.  It is encouraged to sign-up for your free membership to be kept informed on the latest in school cybersecurity.

 

FROM THE IDOE
Student Information System (SIS) Vendor Status Update:  Harmony, Skyward Qmaltive, and FACTS have been badged for the August 2022 badging requirements. A complete list of vendors working to become Indiana Ed-Fi certified can be found on the Data Exchange webpage.
 
Designation of Security Coordinators: The LINK Portal is able to recognize all public, charter, and accredited non-public schools’ local Google G-Suite or Microsoft 365 accounts. IDOE configures the organization’s leader as the first account, and then this person logs in to designate up to two security coordinators.  Instructions for organization leaders on how to designate/update the security coordinators can be found here
 
School Safety Specialist Academy Basic Training: Registration is now open for Basic Training Group 24 of the Indiana School Safety Specialist Academy and will close Friday, October 14. Basic Training will be held in the traditional format consisting of three total days in person. Additionally, specialists must complete online courses to be certified. To register, please visit the Training Opportunities webpage and complete the registration forms.
 
Date Exchange Upgrade Planned for 2024: Data Exchange (DEX) will be moving to Ed-Fi 6.0 for the 2024-2025 school year. This upgrade includes the latest technical updates provided by Ed-Fi, including enhanced data standards and security advancements. This will result in minimal changes to the Data Exchange portal user interface. Additional information regarding project timelines, deliverables, and vendor certification will be provided at a later date. Contact IDOE's Data Exchange Team with any questions.
 
The Indiana Department of Education’s Office of Digital Learning Coach Mini Grant is open for applications until Wednesday, September 14. You can view the grant requirements in this memo.
